Reasons Why Online Psychotherapy Often Works Better Than Traditional Office Visits
We’ve all heard the expression, “Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach a man to fish and he will eat for a lifetime.” That’s the whole idea behind Psychotherapy. In other words you learn more effective ways to tackle and solve difficult problems. You also know that two heads are better than one. In the case of psychotherapy, one of the heads has the expertise and experience to teach those better tools and ways.
This process can be done in the traditional office visit… or it can actually be better online; for a simple example, when you visit a therapist’s office you are almost sure to see another client sitting in the waiting room trying not to make eye contact with you. In this situation you are experiencing stigma- either social or from within. In addition, you have signed the office log. That signature remains for all to see (by who knows who). Embarrassing?
Even face-to-face sessions are excruciating- online or not. Although we at Counseling on Demand do use Skype face-to-face, we also offer phone and email sessions (Did you know that Skype can enable you to be invisible while still seeing your therapist?).
Your secrets are safe with your online therapist- no waiting room, not sign- in log. Online you and your therapist are the only two in the “room”. You choose your own privacy for your session-anywhere, any country.
And, what’s more, online counseling has been found to be MORE effective (Not all experts will agree) than traditional. Proof? In 2013, at the University of Zurich, that very thing was found. In their words, “Fifty-seven per cent of online patients [who] completed [the] course [were] depression free, [and] only 42 per cent of cases who saw [a] therapist in person felt better.” One reason these experts gave for such success was that online clients were able to look over their notes afterwards while traditional clients tended to forget what was said in session. Here at Counseling on Demand, we exchange emails in addition to online therapy sessions. That serves to “cement” what was tackled in session; finally, Zurich has announced that it is now using online therapy sessions increasingly.
Scheduling a session is flexible here at Counseling on Demand. The first consultation is free. Give us a call 24/7.
