Belfield, North Dakota – In the middle of the Bakken oil field
In the middle of the Bakken oil field
Belfield sits on the famous Bakken Oil Field where drilling has made the National news for some years. In the wake of this boom has and is coming refineries which process it. Workers are coming from near and far to get one of its high-paying jobs. The excitement of a new job in a slowly improving National economy is countered by the leaving of hearth and home, limited (and expensive) housing & recreation, loss of old friends and limited family contact. Naturally, such conditions can easily lead to loneliness and its evil brother, depression (anxiety too).
“In western North Dakota, new workers are still coming, businesses are still hiring. Right now, North Dakota has the strongest economy in the Nation and an unemployment rate so low it almost requires an act of will to be out of work — 2.8 percent statewide, 1.1 percent in McKenzie County.
Small town farms such as nearby Watford of 1,500 has ballooned to a population of 12,000 and counting in the space of five years”. (Excerpted from Jennifer Brooks, Star Tribune, 2015)
